RE: PLACEMENT OF THE 1969 WOODSTOCK SITE ON THE NATIONAL REGISTER OF HISTORIC PLACES

Mr. Gerry,

The Woodstock Preservation Alliance, in it's continuing effort to preserve the 38 acres of the original 1969 Woodstock Music and Arts Festival, is requesting that this site be allowed its recognition, and take its place on the National Register of Historic Places.

According to conversations with the New York State Preservation Office, the Gerry Foundation has already confirmed that the Woodstock site is eligible for National registration. This was required in order to apply for, and be granted, the $15 million in public funds for the development of the Bethel Performing Arts District. Given that the site is already deemed eligible, and the Gerry Foundation has already accepted tax payers' money, the WPA does not expect any opposition on the part of the Gerry Foundation to the WPA's desire to proceed with immediate registration.

We are appealing to you Mr. Gerry, and to the Gerry Foundation Inc., for written permission, allowing us to continue with the application process to have the "Woodstock Site" placed on the National Register. At this time, we would also like to inform you that the WPA's desire to register the Woodstock Site is being made public, therefore the Foundation may receive inquires from the media.
