CommentsHi,
It seems to be the only way to get anything (like this ) done...large amts of people all moving in the same direction @ the same time.
To what extent have the original bands & performers thrown their efforts behind the preservation movement?
Best of luck. "Carry On"

Wow....I took lottsa pictures of the site and just enjoyed hanging out....wondering what it must have been like to have been there...as a 12 yrs old that wasn't in the cards. It will surely be missed.... in body but not in mind.

CommentsAfter almost 40 years, I finally made it "back to the garden" on June 9, 2005. It was one of the most awesome experiences of my life! The site has been well preserved and was in immaculate condition the day I was there. Appropriately, it started to pour down rain just as I was getting ready to leave. I'll never forget this experience!

CommentsI was 8 years old during that great weekend. You know mom and dad just weren't going to send me (smile). However, watching the events unfold on the CBS evening news sparked and illuminated my imagination. It seemed like so much harmless fun and beauty. I have since married a man that was a guest of one of the performers (Ritchie Havens). I hope he realizes what a blessing it was to be among so many on that historic day! Thank you for this site.

CommentsThis website is a fantastic tribute to the Woodstock Spirit, and to the efforts of the
WPA. I remeber how it was at the Woodstock site when it was "free," as it was for over 25 years since the Woodstock Festival, back before the fences went up, Although the Woodstock Site itself is no longer "free," the Woodstock Spirit is a free spirit and will always seek places to celebrate in freedom. As a Town of Bethel resident who revels in that spirit of freedom and wants to see that it is carried on, I salute you for your dedication to this cause.

CommentsWoodstock may have saved my life. Without going into huge details, my going there definitely CHANGED me -- immensely. I was always an intense music-lover, and I'd also been a peace activist, so needed the break from all the protesting, etc. Jack Curry wrote a terrific book about it, and has several chapters about me. Then ABC produced a one-hour special for its "Turning Point" (?) program, marking the 20th anniversary, and I appeared on that, as well. I didn't do either for the glory, but because Woodstock was THAT important to my life, my existence. I hope that I will never, EVER forget my four days there. I still have my mud-covered jeans! So I thank you for wanting to preserve this area. It is historical, and a bit of a Mecca for me, although I wonder if I will ever physically return to again put my feet on that "sacred" land. Woodstock will forever be in my heart, and I'm getting all teary-eyed right now. Thank you! Love and peace, Susie V Kaufman (from Morristown, NJ; now living in Santa Clarita, CA).

CommentsJust a BIG THANK YOU to you and all your fellow preservationists who did such a GREAT JOB holding the GF's feet to the fire and getting them to reduce the total ft2age from 400k to a mere 39k...and I must say I think the last 39k are most appropriate. As long as they left the hill and the original stage area pristine, all else if just fine. I want some concession areas at the top of the hill where they were originally, so I can buy an ice cream cone for my granddaughter and a glass of wine for moi...thanks again SO MUCH for all that hard work.
You have saved this hallowed ground for all of us to enjoy...pat yourselves on the back...and let me buy you a drink if we ever meet.

I feel very sorry for you as you have no idea what really happendthere and what continues to happen in all our hearts and minds evryday. CommentsThe nation of Woodstock was built upon the foundations of our love, understanding, and acceptance of each other and every one of us is a brick on which these ideals rest. The desecration of the original site can not, nor can it ever hope to, tear the fabric of the humanity that that event created. We the people made Woodstock what it is today and, even though we are the ones the fence was meant to keep out, little do they know that our spirit lives yet in those fields, buildings, lakes, hills, and skies forever. All the bulldozers and cinder blocks in the world could not squash that ideal because we are the holders of the flame. Peace brothers and sisters.

CommentsI visited the site yesterday 10/20/05 and there is still the feeling that one gets that everyone of the 500,000 brothers and sisters are still there in spirit. I met a few others that also came to reflect. They were as real as they were in 69. We had great discussion. As our lives continue to change thru time. There is still the memories that we all have of the few to many days in August 1969. There will always be a Woodstock. It will always alive in our heats and our minds. Thank-you to all the people who keep the Woodstock nation alive and well. Ed in Virginia

We had the opportunity to visit the Woodstock site several years ago. It was a very moving experience as was our first visit to the legendary Fillmore auditorium in San Francisco last night for Bill Graham's 75 year birthday celebration. We must have been drawn to this web site!
It is very disturbing to hear that a treasure like the Woodstock site could be plowed under the wheels of "man the builder's" so called progress. Thanks to those whose efforts have gone to the preservation of this significant historical site.

CommentsI was 18 when I went to Woodstock and it was my most memorable time of my life.
Because it was what my peers were all into, we were one, it was an unspoken movement of musical enjoyment and respect, it has never happened again in my life to flow with a movement like that where one a part of society changed the spinning of the world. It to me is the roots that became the freedom of music. Also it was great to see my self in the movie and the life magazine. Paul

CommentsHello. Warren Motter - Vocalist/Songwriter, here. As one of a dying breed (Hippie who believes in and does his best to practice Peace, Love and Undrestanding), i've always wondered why, instead of everyone going his/her own way, attendees to the Woodstock Arts Festival didn't, as a group, go someplace, after the festival ended, to be a beacon for Love and Peace and Freedom. CommentsI'm Elliot Tiber, the GAY man who made the festival possible. I was president of the decaying C.O.C for ten years since nobody wanted to bother. during those years, i was trying (and failing yearly) to have a music/arts festival on the grounds of my resort 'El Monaco Motel' on 17b @rte 55. White lake was all but dead except for rundown bunleHole colonies.. yuk. I tried Checkov and Tennessee Williams theater in my old barn. I tried some local teen bands on a platform on my lawn. mostly, i had to use my LP phonograph and play records.. janis joplin, the doors, greatful dead along with Beethoven, Bach and Madame Butterfly. THE ONLY PAYING FESTIVAL ATTENDEES WERE my milkman, MAX YASGUR, (who donated milk, eggs, cheese) to my troupe of 30 actors/musicians - since we had about $5. a week in sales.. NOBODY CAME TO SULLIVAN COUNTY FOR SERIOUS THEATER.. and my good friends, Elaine Grossinger & her husband, Liberty Doctor, Dr.David Etess.
When woodtock ventures lost its 3rd permit, and were going to fold their tents, i phoned Mike Lang, told him that I had a festival permit (which i typed up on my old Underwood - before computers ha ha) which i used for ten years for my sad no fest festivals. I sold them the permit for $1., flew their helicoptor to Yasgur. Max was happy to have one of my festivals.. the rest is movie history. lol

CommentsIt was nice to see you, JoAnn, at the opening of Bethel Woods. It makes us more suspect of yours and your boyfriend Brads true intent when you hijacked the WPA site from the people who created it. What did you really do? And how much did Gerry pay you to flush the whole thing for the REAL WPA?
You give new meaning to Judas. I hope to see you and Brad at the reunion.

CommentsLet it go loser. They did more to save that site than anyone. The old WPA was talk talk talk. At least they took real action. If you saw JoAnne at Bethel Woods you must have been there too. Did Gerry send you a personal invite?

CommentsOh, I was there, for one purpose. And many questions were answered. Its nice of you protect your girlfriend. People who do not know the story, soon will. Allan Gerrys minions will not be embraced where the true Woodstock spirit resides.

CommentsI guess peace and love has been replaced by anger and rage. I guess the whole live and let live thing is just a bunch of words to some.

CommentsI hope you will do whatever it takes to preserve a piece of history from development. I never made it, got stuck on the road and it is one of my biggest regrets. Still trying to get up to visit the site.
Please don't allow development. pam-pamee11793@yahoo.com

CommentsMan, I didn't even know that this Bethel woods place was built, and running. I was at the 94 and 98 reunions, and I am sad about this corporate rape of
sacred land. I guess all we have now are memories...
Hold on to them!

CommentsAs our economy collapses on a global scale and oil becomes ever more scarce, localized living standards will become necessary, and our consumer culture will be
dissolved into the oil energy abyss it was birthed from.
People who inhabit and maintain the environment which contains the original Woodstock 69 site, will understand its value, and may represent a very artistic and familiar environment for those who live within it's sustainable limits. At this point, unless some material from the 'Bethel Woods' was necessary for a sustainable purpose, it would stand as a symbol of how far we went, and how much we gave up to even have to fight for this piece of land in the first place.
Peace
