JULY 01, 2003

It's not about the sentimental "spirit" of Woodstock anymore. It's about the politics of historic preservation, and accountability to the words and broken promises spoken to the tax paying residents of Sullivan County and NY State, from whom GF gladly accepted their hard-earned money. It's about preserving a Historic Site.

The WELCOME Mat
We, at the WPA, wish to extend a warm "Welcome" all newly registered members of the Woodstock Preservation Alliance.
We're pleased to have you join us, and we "thank you" for your attention, and your interest, in our fight to preserve the original Woodstock Site.

In Appreciation
We would like to say "Thank You" to everyone who has recently made a donation to the WPA, and
"A Special Thank You" to acknowledge those who have contributed personal "out of pocket money" for those unrealized expenses, such as long distance phone charges and mailings. We are very appreciative for your efforts and your generosity.

In Summary: America's 11 Most Endangered Places for 2003
We unfortunately did not make the list, however; after talking with the National Trust we have received an explanation. First of all, the site WAS seen as having incredible historic merit that deserves preservation. The primary reason that the site did not make the list is, not that is not worth preserving, but it does not meet the criteria of being endangered. Because the site is deemed eligible as a National Historic site, it has protection at State and Federal levels (through the Section 106 Review). When there is no longer protection for a site, then there is endangerment. As the Woodstock Site is protected at this time, there is still a chance to mitigate the plans. We will continually be in contact with the SHPO and the National Trust. There is little that can be done until GF presents their project plans to the state.

With regards to the Section 106 Review, letters have been sent out to HUD Director of Community Planning and Development and to the Advisory Council on Historic Preservation.

ARTIE KORNFELD - "The Father of Woodstock"
The WPA has been in contact with Artie Kornfeld, Known as the ”Father of the '69 Woodstock Festival"; Artie is a legendary producer, promoter, songwriter and manager, who's been in the music industry for the past 40 years. Mr. Kornfeld is appreciative of what we are trying to accomplish, and the WPA hopes that Artie's acknowledgment of our efforts will help to further the cause, to preserve the original Woodstock Site.

WE ARE ASKING FOR YOUR HELP - Donations are Needed

Receipts will be issued. We appreciate anything you can do to help.

New Website Submissions
We have recently revamped the main web page of our Website, to now include photos for easy-access viewing.
We are looking for new submissions, possibly more recent pictures of the Woodstock Site, to add to the website, both for the Photo and Folklore areas.
Our Website is in dire need of updated visuals. If everyone out there with any pictures would send them our way…Let's see what we all could put together.

Also personal documentaries, experiences, feelings or stories that you might want to share, we could totally revamp the Folklore area, and at the same time bestow a little "Woodstock Spirit" to those, who otherwise wouldn't know.
Anyone interested, please e-mail us for information.
